Frequently Asked Questions.
Here to help you.
What is Blaze Messenger?
Blaze Messenger is an app for Apple Watch developed by VoiceBeam GmbH that lets you connect and manage your WhatsApp account directly from your Apple Watch. With Blaze Messenger, you can view and respond to messages, access your chat history and participate in 1-on-1 (group chats are in the works). It allows you to stay connected and manage your conversations even without your iPhone nearby.
Blaze Messenger is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by WhatsApp or Meta Platforms, Inc.
How does Blaze Messenger work?
Blaze Messenger consists of three main parts:
· An Apple Watch app that runs on your Apple Watch (the Blaze Messenger itself).
· An iPhone app to manage your connections.
· A web service that connects Blaze Messenger to WhatsApp and OpenAI (when using the AI assistant)
Blaze Messenger is only available on iOS and WatchOS. No other platforms are currently supported.
Is Blaze Messenger free to use?
Yes, Blaze Messenger is free to use. However, we will be offering a Pro version with enhanced features for a subscription fee in the future. In the meantime there is only one version of Blaze Messenger and that is free to use.
How do I connect my WhatsApp account?
1. Install Blaze Messenger on your Apple Watch. When you open the app, a QR code will appear on the screen.
2. On your iPhone, open WhatsApp, go to Settings > Linked devices, and tap "Link device"
3. Scan the QR code displayed on your Apple Watch using your iPhone’s camera.
4. Once paired, a green checkmark will confirm a successful connection on your Apple Watch.
Which messaging services does Blaze Messenger support?
Currently, Blaze Messenger only supports WhatsApp. We plan to add more platforms in the future.
How does Blaze Messenger handle notifications?
You'll receive Blaze notifications on your Apple Watch for every new WhatsApp message.
If you're not wearing your watch, WhatsApp notifications will continue to appear on your iPhone as usual.
In case of a poor internet connection, you may receive duplicate notifications on your Apple Watch—one from Blaze Messenger and one from WhatsApp.
Due to system limitations, Blaze notifications can be delayed by up to ~15s. To reduce this delay to ~3s, you can uninstall the Blaze Messenger iPhone app, which optimizes notification delivery directly to your Apple Watch.
Can I use Blaze Messenger for group chats?
The current version of Blaze Messenger (as of January 2025) only supports 1-on-1 chats. Support for group chats will be added by March 2025.
What WhatsApp features are currently supported?
The goal for Blaze Messenger is to support all of the features that you use on a daily basis on WhatsApp.
As of now Blaze Messenger supports most of the core features like:
· sending/receiving messages
· recording/listening to voice messages
· 1-on-1 chats
· images in HD
· emojis
· emoji reactions
· message replies
· deleting sent messages
For other features, like group chats, calls, locations sharing, disappearing messages, polls and creating new group chats, you will need to open the WhatsApp smartphone app to perform that action. Over time we will be adding the missing features to Blaze Messenger. If you have specific feature requests, please email us at contact@blazemessenger.com
Why can I not access my full chat history?
Blaze Messenger currently limits chat history to ensure the best performance on your Apple Watch. Loading an entire chat archive can be demanding on a smartwatch and we currently optimized for speed and efficiency.
We’re actively working on expanding chat history access and will eventually allow you to view your entire message history.
Why can I not see all of my contacts?
Blaze Messenger limits the chat list to your last 15 contacts (including group chats) for performance reasons. We’re working on expanding this limit and will allow access to more contacts in a future update! (Planned for March 2025)
Why are my contact names different to what I see on my phone?
Blaze Messenger currently displays contact names as they appear on WhatsApp - meaning the names your friends set for themselves when they signed up.
We’re working on a solution that will sync your contact names from your phone, so they appear just as you have them saved.
Additionally, some users have reported a bug during sign-up where contact names don't import correctly and only show cryptic symbols. This is an issue on our end, and we’re actively working on a fix, which we expect to roll out by the end of February 2025.
Does Blaze Messenger change my WhatsApp Online Status?
Yes, Blaze Messenger currently affects your WhatsApp online status. When connected, your Last Seen & Online setting in WhatsApp privacy is automatically set to "Nobody." This happens due to how Blaze Messenger handles message delivery and notifications on your Apple Watch. We understand this may not work for everyone and we're actively working on a solution that maintains the best experience without impacting your status settings.
If you ever remove Blaze Messenger from your Linked Devices, your WhatsApp online status will return to its previous setting automatically.
Why aren't all my messages synching?
If not all your messages are syncing, there could be a few reasons:
· Poor or no internet connection—make sure your Apple Watch is online.
· Temporary sync issues—a quick restart usually fixes this.
To restart Blaze Messenger, double-click the Digital Crown, swipe left on Blaze Messenger to remove it from the app view and then reopen it.
What happens to my data when using the AI assistant?
When you use the AI assistant, your request is processed by OpenAI. To generate a response, your message and recent chat history may be sent to OpenAI’s servers for contextual understanding.
Your data is not stored, not used for AI training and not used for any other purpose beyond handling your request.
Neither OpenAI nor Blaze Messenger retains any data from your AI requests.
Will Blaze Messenger really work without my phone nearby?
Yes, if your Apple Watch has Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, Blaze Messenger will work independently.
Is Blaze Messenger safe to use?
Blaze Messenger is designed with your privacy and security in mind. We use state-of-the-art encryption technology to protect your chats and ensure all connections are secure. For AI features, parts of your chats are processed on protected servers for transcription and summarization, but no data is stored or used for training purposes. For more details see our Privacy Policy.
How does Blaze Messenger connect to encrypted chat networks like WhatsApp?
When sending and receiving WhatsApp messages, the Blaze Messenger WhatsApp bridge acts as a relay. For example, if you send a message from Blaze Messenger to a friend on WhatsApp, the message is encrypted on your Blaze Messenger client, sent to the bridge, which decrypts and re-encrypts the message with WhatsApp's proprietary encryption protocol.
Can I suggest new features / give feedback?
